Good News #207: Through and Because of Jesus, God’s Promises in the Scripture and in My Life are Yes and Amen!

When we study carefully the old covenants, we find that there are conditions to the promises of God for them to get fulfilled in one’s life.

For example:
Leviticus 26:3 records these words: “If you walk in My statutes and keep My commandments, and perform them,”
Deuteronomy 28:1 records these words: “Now it shall come to, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments…”
1 Kings 3:14 records these words: “So if you walk in My ways, to keep My statutes and My commandments…”

God’s “yes” to the blessings and fulfillment of the promises were dependent on man’s obedience… and so we find that the blessings don’t last long because man’s fallen nature would always make man end up disobeying… and in man’s disobedience, the other side of the covenant happens… which is the curses.

But God’s heart has always been about blessing man… we see this quite clearly in the beginning when God provided everything in abundance for Adam and Eve. God just wants to love on humanity because that’s who He is.

So Jesus came… to fulfill every condition in the covenants so that in His obedience, everyone who believes in Him gets to enjoy the blessings and fulfillment of the promises… so that in His obedience, everyone is preserved from the curses of disobedience.

Galatians 3:13-14 puts it this way:
Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

The gospel is this — The new covenant cut by the blood of Jesus is built upon the obedience of Jesus.
He came to fulfill the Law and the Prophets in our behalf. In His doing so, He fulfilled everything needed for us to receive God’s blessings and promises.

In Christ, all of God’s promises are Yes and Amen.
Expect it in Christ because God’s words are faithful and true.

For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us—by me, Silvanus, and Timothy—was not Yes and No, but in Him was Yes.
