Good News #12: No One Deserves God’s Grace; It is By His Goodness That He Freely Gives to Anyone Willing to Accept and Receive Him!

When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?”

John 5:6

The healing at the pool of Bethesda happened to a man who had an infirmity for thirty-eight (38) years.

This sick man:
-does NOT sound like he knows Jesus
-does NOT sound like he has heard of Jesus (unlike the woman with the issue of blood)
-is obviously NOT following Jesus around
-is NOT looking for Jesus
-has NOT called upon Jesus

But Jesus…
Look at how wonderfully compassionately gracious Jesus is…

John 5:6 says…
When Jesus SAW him lying there, and KNEW that he already had been in that condition a long time, He [Jesus] SAID to him, “Do you want to be made well?” (brackets mine)

Jesus extended His grace to the sick man despite the man arguably not knowing Jesus exists.

Jesus drew near to the sick man and invited him into a conversation that led to him getting healed after being sick for thirty-eight (38) long years.

The man wasn’t even calling upon Him yet Jesus came to him to bring him His gift of healing.

This is the gospel. That the Saviour’s heart is drawn to our needs and hears even the unuttered cries of desperation of our hearts… and He doesn’t wait for us to express them fluently, He draws near and invites us into His overflowing abundance of supply of everything we need.

Whatta God we have!!!
Whatta Jesus we have!!!
