Risen Life Day #9: Peace Through the Locked Doors

“On the evening of that first day of the week… the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear… Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you!'” John 20:19 (NIV)

THE JOURNEY

Marcus had always considered himself a confident leader. As a project manager at a large company, he was used to solving problems, guiding teams, and making decisions under pressure.

But when the company went through a sudden restructuring, Marcus found himself laid off without warning. Within weeks, his sense of stability evaporated. The mortgage suddenly felt heavier. The job market looked uncertain. Anxiety crept into his thoughts late at night.

Outwardly he tried to stay composed, but inside he felt like the walls were closing in.

One evening during his devotional time, Marcus read the resurrection account where the disciples had locked themselves inside a room. The men who had walked with Jesus for three years were now hiding in fear.

The detail struck him: the doors were locked.

Then came the moment that changed everything.

Jesus appeared in the middle of the room.

The locked doors that trapped the disciples could not keep the risen Christ out.

Marcus realized something powerful in that moment. Fear had locked him into an emotional room of worry and uncertainty. But resurrection power meant that Christ could enter any place fear tried to seal shut.

And the first words Jesus spoke were not correction.

They were peace.

Heart of the Matter

The resurrection story shows us that even the strongest believers can experience fear.

The disciples had seen miracles. They had walked beside Jesus. Yet after the crucifixion, fear drove them into hiding.

They locked the doors.

They feared arrest.
They feared persecution.
They feared that everything they had believed in had collapsed.

But fear could not stop the risen Christ from reaching them.

Jesus did not knock.
He did not wait for permission.
He simply appeared among them.

And the first thing He offered was peace.

This moment reveals a profound truth about the Risen Life.

Fear builds locked rooms in our hearts.

We lock the doors of:

• anxiety
• past failures
• uncertainty about the future
• wounds from betrayal or loss

But the resurrection means that no locked door can keep Christ out.

Here is the dynamic of the Risen Life:

You love God by inviting Him into the places where fear has taken control.
Instead of hiding your anxiety, you bring it honestly before Him.

He loves you back by bringing peace that circumstances cannot manufacture.
The peace of the risen Christ is not the absence of problems—it is His presence in the middle of them.

The same Jesus who stood in that locked room still steps into fearful places today and says the same words:

“Peace be with you.”

Faith in Action

Fear thrives in isolation.

But resurrection peace enters when we invite Christ into our fears.

The Challenge:

Identify one “locked room” in your life.

Ask yourself:

• What fear have I been hiding from others?
• What situation makes me feel trapped or overwhelmed?

Write that fear down in a journal or on a piece of paper.

Then pray this simple declaration:

“Jesus, this door is open. Step into this place and bring Your peace.”

Sit quietly for a moment and imagine Christ standing with you in that situation.

Let His presence reshape how you see the problem.

Prayer for the Day

Risen Savior, You know the fears that sometimes trap my heart behind locked doors. Just as You entered the room where the disciples were hiding, I ask You to enter the places in my life where anxiety has taken control. Replace my fear with Your peace. Remind me that no circumstance is beyond Your presence and no situation is too sealed for Your power. Thank You that the resurrection proves You are alive and near. Teach me to trust Your peace even when life feels uncertain. Amen.

VICTORY Note

“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.”Jesus Christ, John 14:27
