I AM Day #27: The Intercepting Voice
“‘Who are you, Lord?’ Saul asked. ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,’ he replied.” — Acts 9:5 (NIV)
THE JOURNEY
The backdrop of this narrative is an atmosphere of zealous fanaticism, legalistic aggression, and systemic terror. Saul of Tarsus was on a mission of total elimination. Breathing out murderous threats against the disciples of the Lord, he had obtained official warrants from the high priest in Jerusalem to drag men and women in chains from Damascus to stand trial. Saul was convinced he was doing God’s work—that his pedigree, political authority, and ideological purity gave him absolute right-of-way to wipe out the early Church. From a human perspective, he was an unstoppable freight train of persecution, moving under full state sanction and terrifying the vulnerable believers who hid in fear of his arrival.
But as Saul neared Damascus, his self-righteous rampage was shattered in a microsecond. A light from heaven, blindingly brighter than the midday sun, flashed around him, knocking him off his horse and driving his face into the dirt. Out of the blinding glory came a voice that reshaped history: “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” Trembling in total darkness and disorientation, the proud Pharisee asked the ultimate question: “Who are you, Lord?” The answer released the absolute, divine self-identification of the exalted Christ: “Ego Eimi Iesous”—”I AM Jesus.” In an instant, the Sovereign King proved that He does not watch the abuse of His people from an indifferent distance. The Great I AM revealed that every blow struck against His children is felt directly by the Head of the Church, proving that no human persecutor or hostile system has the structural authority to bypass His direct interception.
Heart of the Matter
The aggressive, unstoppable march of Saul toward Damascus represents those terrifying seasons where a hostile force seems to have complete, unblocked clearance to ruin your peace. It is the overwhelming threat of a vindictive legal suit, the toxic crusade of a colleague set on destroying your reputation, or the looming shadow of systemic opposition that feels far too powerful for you to resist. When aggressive forces line up against your home or your calling, anxiety leverages their momentum to whisper that you are unprotected, that the enemy has been given free rein over your life, and that no help is coming in time.
But the revelation of the Intercepting Voice reveals that your life and your labor are so intimately fused with Christ that any attack on you is a direct assault on the Son of God. You do not have to plead for His attention or wonder if He sees the unfair pressure you are enduring. Because He is the exalted Ego Eimi, His presence stands as a sovereign checkpoint over your story. He lets human arrogance run only as far as His divine boundary permits before He steps out of eternity, flashes His uncreated light, and brings the momentum of the oppressor to an absolute standstill. When the threats of this world look unstoppable, you must look away from the fury of your persecutors and look at the scale of your Defender. Look at the signature track record: the One who knocked Saul to the dirt can halt any assault against your future.
Faith in Action
The identity of the great I AM is applied when we stop defining ourselves by our deficits and begin anchoring our perspective to who He is.
The Challenge: Explicitly identify the aggressive person, hostile threat, or unfair battle that has been terrorizing your peace this week, and legally cede total jurisdiction of its defense to the Intercepting Voice today.
- Enforce the Divine Barrier: The next time a panicked thought tries to convince you that a hostile force has total clearance to ruin your life today, execute a clean break. Declare aloud: “I am not unprotected. An attack on me is an attack on Christ, and the Great I AM is intercepting this battle today.”
- Stop Fighting in Human Flesh: Refuse to retaliate with bitter words, hidden schemes, or fear-driven defensiveness today. Stand still and let the Lord handle the opposition.
- The Intercepting Voice Prayer: Find a quiet space, drop to your knees in total stillness, extend your hands upward, and pray: “Exalted Savior and Intercepting Voice, You are Ego Eimi, the Defender of Your People. I confess that I have panicked when hostile forces and unfair accusations have marched against my life, leaving me terrified that I am completely unprotected. Forgive me for measuring Your protection by my own vulnerability. Today, I anchor my life entirely to Your flawless track record. Flash Your sovereign light into my battles, disarm the intent of the oppressor, shield my household, and let my unshakeable safety be a permanent monument to Your glorious name. Amen.”
Prayer for the Day
Sovereign Lord and Risen King, You are the God who blinds the proud, defends the vulnerable, and speaks from heaven to disarm the enemy by the word of Your authority, and Your exalted identity is my permanent fortress. I confess that I easily tremble and lose my footing when hostile circumstances assemble against my peace and threaten my future. Wash away my spiritual helplessness and my deep survival anxiety today. Give me the profound, quiet composure to stand firm in Your covenant protection, knowing that my life is hidden in Christ. I rest securely in Your unyielding character, confident that because You are “I AM,” no weapon formed against me will stand. Amen.
