Good News #322: I Will Forever Praise Jesus and Bless His Name, For All the Benefits I Have Received Because of Him!

What is it with us, human beings, that we make an effort to remember what The Lord wants us to forget, and we forget what The Lord wants us not to forget?

Matter of fact, we come against those who remember and hold on to what The Lord wants us to remember and hold on to.

Such an odd, confusing bunch, aren’t we?
Thank God our God is patient and longsuffering, gracious and merciful.

In Psalm 103:2, David, by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, shows us that we are to instruct our souls to bless the Lord and forget not all His benefits.

Usually, at this point, the religious would argue that these are “spiritual” benefits meaning benefits only to be enjoyed in heaven but let’s let the next few verses end all these religious arguments.

Verses 3 through 5 says:
Who forgives all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases,
Who redeems your life from destruction,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
Who satisfies your mouth with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

These are things that are not necessary to remember in heaven because when we are in heaven in our redeemed and glorified bodies, we won’t have the appetite for iniquities… also, in heaven, there are no diseases, no destruction, no ageing…

There is nothing that will steal, kill or destroy in heaven…

These are, in truth, benefits that we need to make a conscious effort to remember here in this present world because it is easy for our fallen nature to forget the good… especially the ones we receive from The Lord.

The gospel is this — it is not man’s idea to meditate on the benefits (good things) from The Lord.
The Lord wants us to do so.
The Holy Spirit had this instruction to bless the Lord and forget not all His benefits in Scripture…
so we may never forget.
He wants us to meditate on what is lovely, pure, good, noble… and most especially, what we have received because of the sacrifice of Jesus for us.

Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits
