Good News #107: Let Your Words and Actions Preach Jesus Christ to a World Needing of a Savior!

Our speech is, in a way, a form of preaching. When we speak, we proclaim, declare or herald an idea or thought that first originated in the brain. When we speak, we publish in words what are in our thoughts.

In the bible, preaching is especially used for publicly proclaiming a divine truth.

Before Jesus came, ancient prophets have been preaching the word of God…urging people to turn from their ways and go back to The Law…the ten commandments, the precepts, the statutes all written in the Torah (the first five books of Moses) and the judgments related to these.

They were, in fact, preaching the truth at that specific time.

But if we study the gospels carefully, we will notice that wherever Jesus preached or taught…in the cities and villages… in the synagogues… the common reaction of people is ASTONISHMENT.

Why were they astonished?

Because Jesus was teaching something fresh…something new…
All others before Jesus came were preaching the law (the system of do this and that to receive this and that from God)… which was the truth at that time….

But Jesus came to preach The Ultimate Truth which is Himself…Grace Personified.

John 1:17 says…
For the law was given through Moses, but grace and TRUTH came through Jesus Christ.

In John 14:6, Jesus said, “I am the way, THE TRUTH, and the life.”

The coming of Jesus changed everything.
Before Jesus — preachings were about obedience to the law, doing this and doing that, etc.
When Jesus came — Jesus started preaching the grace of God, the goodness of God, THE TRUTH that God is not out to punish people but to die for people…not to condemn or judge but to save and love…

The cross made a difference — it heralded a new order of things…that instead of preaching Moses, The Law and The Prophets…we are now to preach Christ Jesus…not the Jesus before the cross but CHRIST JESUS CRUCIFIED and now GLORIFIED.

The gospel is — not about how good, obedient, in service you are….BUT how extravagantly good and gracious our God is.

Romans 2:4 says the goodness of God leads to repentance.
This is why we preach and point to CHRIST…and NOT to people or ourselves.

Jesus is the gospel!

What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is preached; and in this I rejoice, yes, and will rejoice.
