Good News #296: God’s Will for My Life: To Know Jesus, Believe in Him and Have Everlasting Life!

Isaiah 55:8 records the following words of The Lord:
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways”

Many have used this verse in Isaiah to teach that we can never know God’s thoughts and God’s ways…

But this verse was never meant to say that God’s thoughts and God’s ways can never be understood. In fact, the previous verse helps us put Isaiah 55:8 in context.

Isaiah 55:6-7 records:
Seek the Lord while He may be found,
Call upon Him while He is near.
Let the wicked forsake his way,
And the unrighteous man his thoughts;
Let him return to the Lord,
And He will have mercy on him;
And to our God,
For He will abundantly pardon.

In other words, Isaiah 55:8 is specific about the issue of repentance, forgiveness and pardon… and that in these matters, God thinks and acts NOT the way we do… because He will abundantly pardon unlike us, human beings regardless if we are born again in the Spirit…

This is one old testament example which we have superimposed our understanding on… and taken things out of context…

In the new testament, the will of The Father… the will of God… is another that we all make out to be unclear, vague and ambiguous…

YET… Jesus did not leave us without clarity over this…

Jesus said that the will of Him (God The Father) who sent Him (God The Son) is that everyone who sees (knows through the Word and the preaching of the gospel) Jesus and believes in Jesus will have everlasting life.

The gospel is this — While there are things of God and about God that we will never know and understand about… there are also many things that God is abundantly clear about in His word.
One of which is His will — which is that people will have everlasting life by getting to know Jesus and believing in Jesus.
Whatta God we have!!!

And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
