Good News #208: Jesus’ Sacrifice and Death on the Cross Has Saved and Blessed Me Even Now!

In the gospels, we find Jesus saying:

“You are the salt of the earth…” (Matthew 5:13)
“You are the light of the world…” (Matthew 5:14)
“You didn’t choose me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit…” (John 15:16)

These echo His words in the old testament spoken through the prophets:

“…you shall be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters don’t fail.” (Isaiah 58:11)
“…their soul shall be as a watered garden…” (Jeremiah 31:12)

salt… light… fruit… watered gardens… spring of water… these are pictures of blessings to whoever has them…
salt adds flavor, preserves meat, etc…
light allows us to see things clearly so we can function properly…
watered gardens give us fruits, vegetables, food…
spring of water gives us clean running water for cooking, bathing, etc…

When Jesus came to sacrificially die on the cross for humanity, it wasn’t just so that whoever believes in Him can be a blessing to others in the afterlife… heaven is a place where all are blessed and nothing of this fallen world exists.

The sacrifice of Jesus covers even this present life… the here and now…

In believing in Jesus, salvation happens and in His salvation, one becomes one with Jesus, where the new spirit is identical to that of Jesus.

1 John 4:17 puts it this way:
“…as He (Jesus) is, so are we in this world.”

The gospel is this — Jesus is The Greatest and Ultimate blessing… with us in Him, we become like Him… in this world.
Jesus saved you so you can be a blessing as He is… in the here and now.
Live knowing you are.

And it shall come to pass
That just as you were a curse among the nations,
O house of Judah and house of Israel,
So I will save you, and you shall be a blessing.
Do not fear,
Let your hands be strong.
