Good News #78: The Lord Preserves Me From All Evil, He Preserves My Soul!

Many of us (who believe in Jesus) are confused with God’s nature… because we often fail to remember that the cross… the death, burial AND RESURRECTION of Jesus had already happened…

We live AS IF God is not for us but against us.
We read scripture AS IF what Jesus did was not enough or had not fully reconciled us to God… AS IF we are still God’s enemies. Truth is — we no longer are…

Now, we know that all of Paul’s epistles were written to believers.

In his epistle to the Romans, it says in Romans 5:10…
For if when WE WERE enemies WE WERE reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, HAVING BEEN, we shall be saved by His life.

In his 2nd epistle to the Corinthians, it says in 2 Corinthians 5:19…
…GOD WAS in Christ RECONCILING the world TO Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.

In other words, it was God who did what was necessary to reconcile us to Him. None of what we did reconciled us to Him. It was all His work done through Jesus. Our only part is to believe in Jesus and receive His sacrifice in our behalf. This means that what we do onwards cannot “un-reconcile” us from Him because we are not powerful enough to undo the work of God Himself.

Now this does not mean our actions does not come with consequences. It still does which means when we sin, God still loves us and we are still His but we will still suffer the natural consequences (NOT God’s punishment).

Now because we are no longer enemies of God, God will never ever treat us so.
In fact, God has made us sons and daughters which means we are His own and as His own, He is for us and never against.

But in this fallen world, the unclean spirits around who are enemies of God, are against us…these attack us but we need not fear these because the Spirit of God dwells in us.

1 John 4:4 says…He [Holy Spirit] who is in you is greater than he [satan] who is in the world.

The gospel is this — God Himself works the work of divine protection through the Holy Spirit in us who will preserve us from all evil and preserve our soul.

Whatta God we have!
Whattan awesome Presence the Holy Spirit is in us!

The Lord shall preserve you from all evil;
He shall preserve your soul.
