Good News #61: The Only Basis of My Salvation and Redemption is the Finished Work of Jesus, and Not Based on My Own Works!

The cross is the starting point of the Christian life.
It was at the cross that Jesus wrought our redemption through the shedding of His blood that ultimately led to His death.

Leviticus 17:11 says of the animal sacrifices…
“…it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.”

This is referred to in Hebrews 9:22 where it says…
And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood, there is no remission.

Both old and new testament testify that for atonement or remission of sins, there has to be blood shed.

This is exactly what Jesus did more than two thousand years ago.

He came to be the ultimate sacrifice to end all sacrifices and shed His eternal blood for you and me.
His blood and His sacrificial death is the reason why we have irreversible, eternal redemption and complete, irrevocable forgiveness of our sins. None of our supposed goodness added to His work.

Yet today, religion keeps christians occupied with themselves, their obedience, their good deeds… to be the basis of being redeemed and forgiven… as if what Jesus did was not enough.

The sacrifice of Jesus is enough…in fact, it is more than enough. He fulfilled all that the law demanded, down to its last tittle.

The gospel is this — The redemption and forgiveness of sins is contingent only upon the blood of Jesus and His death. Our only part is to believe in Jesus and what He did and receive Him as our Saviour.

While it cost God everything to redeem humanity, it is a free gift of salvation for us. His yoke indeed is easy and light.

Whatta God we have!
Whatta Saviour we have in Jesus!
