Good News #34: The Goodness of God Leads to Repentance, Not Condemnation or Guilt-Tripping!

Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?

Romans 2:4

Throughout the gospels, we see Jesus extending grace towards sinners… to outcasts… to women and children who were marginalized in that day and time…

These were the very people the Pharisees, lawyers and scribes looked down on. The ones shunned from the synagogues for a lack of merit in law-keeping yet these are the very ones who heard from Jesus Himself the real gospel… the true gospel.

Whenever Jesus taught and preached the gospel, the ones labeled unholy during that time came to Him .

And Jesus never discriminates them.
Jesus never pointed them to their sins or their lack of law-keeping.
Jesus did not shame them.
Jesus did not guilt-trip them for their lack of good works.

You will never find in the gospel Jesus speaking a harsh word to sinners and outcasts.

Instead, He spoke to them words that have probably been never spoken to them or never in their wildest dreams had they imagined would be spoken to them by a rabbi.

Jesus spoke to them lines like:
“follow Me”,
“your sins are forgiven you”,
“your faith has made you whole”,
“what do you want Me to do for you?”,
“I am willing”,
“it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom”
and much more….

Jesus revealed God’s graciousness and kindness to them. He ate with them. He spoke to them about the good news, the kingdom of God being at hand and the love of The Father.

Jesus was called a friend of sinners.

Look, if Jesus did so BEFORE He died on the cross and rose again. Would He not do so now?
If Jesus did so to sinners, would He not do so now to those who have believed and received His atoning sacrifice?
If Jesus did so to sinners, would He not do so now to those who have been born again and are now sons and daughters of the Most High?

This is the gospel — that there is NO condemnation to those who are IN CHRIST JESUS.

The gospel is truly good news.
The gospel is JESUS.
Whatta God we have!
Whatta Saviour we have in Jesus!
