Good News #28: Jesus Did Not Come to Condemn the World But Through Him to Save!

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

John 3:17

Many of us are familiar with John 3:16 which is part of what Jesus spoke to Nicodemus about but not a lot are familiar with what Jesus said next.

Jesus said He came NOT to condemn but to save (sōzō, in Greek) which not only means to save from hell but from the works of the enemy like sickness, diseases, poverty… things that leads to failed marriages, depression, etc.

If we read the gospels, this is exactly what Jesus did. He saved (sōzō) those who came to Him, those who were brought to Him and healed them…without checking for qualifications.

Acts 20:38 says…
how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.

This fallen world is rife with condemnation because of Adam’s one act of disobedience that brought corruption into an originally perfect world God created.

This world is already under a sentence of condemnation… BUT… JESUS CAME TO SAVE us through His grace…the undeserved goodness of God towards humanity.

Jesus DID NOT come to point fingers and point our sins out to us and point us to ourselves. Jesus DID NOT come to CONDEMN.

Jesus came to point us to the heart of the Father who sent Him so that through Him and His sacrifice, we can be saved WITHOUT condemning us.

The gospel is the goodness of God.
The gospel is the grace and truth that came through Jesus.
The gospel is all about Jesus.
The gospel is about the largeness of the heart of our God and His love for us.
The gospel is good news… wonderful news.

The gospel teaches that the goodness of God leads to repentance [Romans 2:4]
