Risen Life Day #11: Eyes Opened to Truth
“Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him, and He disappeared from their sight.” — Luke 24:31 (NIV)

THE JOURNEY
Olivia had been walking through life on autopilot.
Work, responsibilities, routines—everything was moving, but nothing felt alive. Even her faith had become mechanical. She still prayed, still attended church, but something felt disconnected, like she was going through motions without meaning.
One evening, feeling restless, she decided to take a long walk at a nearby park. As she walked, she listened to a podcast discussing the story of the two disciples on the road to Emmaus.
They had been walking with Jesus.
Talking with Him.
Listening to Him.
Engaging with Him.
And yet—they didn’t recognize Him.
That detail unsettled her.
How could someone walk alongside Jesus and not know it was Him?
Then came the moment that changed everything: their eyes were opened.
Olivia stopped walking.
She realized something uncomfortable but freeing at the same time—maybe the problem wasn’t that God was distant.
Maybe her eyes had simply grown dull.
That night, she prayed differently.
Not for circumstances to change.
Not for answers to every question.
But for her eyes to be opened.
And slowly, over the following weeks, things began to shift.
Scripture felt alive again.
Moments of clarity broke through her routine.
She began noticing God in places she had overlooked before.
The Risen Life had not been absent.
She had just been learning how to see it.
Heart of the Matter
The road to Emmaus is one of the most fascinating resurrection accounts.
Two disciples are walking away from Jerusalem, discouraged and confused. Their hopes about Jesus seemed shattered by the crucifixion.
Then Jesus Himself joins them on the journey.
They walk together.
They talk.
They even hear Him explain the Scriptures.
And yet—they don’t recognize Him.
It isn’t until a simple moment—when Jesus breaks bread—that their eyes are opened.
Suddenly, everything becomes clear.
This reveals an important truth about the Risen Life:
Sometimes the issue is not God’s absence—it’s our perception.
We can:
• walk through life unaware of His presence
• hear truth without recognizing its source
• experience moments of grace without fully seeing them
But the resurrection brings more than life—it brings revelation.
Here is the dynamic of the Risen Life:
You love God by seeking Him intentionally and asking for spiritual clarity.
You move beyond routine faith and pursue a deeper awareness of His presence.
He loves you back by opening your eyes to recognize Him in everyday life.
The risen Christ reveals Himself—not always dramatically, but often in quiet, meaningful moments.
When your eyes are opened, the same life begins to look different.
Not because everything changes around you—
but because you begin to see what has been there all along.
Faith in Action
Spiritual clarity begins with intentional seeking.
The Challenge:
Take time today to slow down and reflect on your day.
Ask yourself:
• Where did I see signs of God’s presence today?
• What moments did I overlook?
• What truth might God be trying to show me?
Write down at least three moments—big or small—where you sense God may have been at work.
Then pray:
“Lord, open my eyes to recognize You more clearly.”
Practice awareness.
The more you look, the more you begin to see.
Prayer for the Day
Risen Lord, I confess that there are times when I walk through life without recognizing Your presence. Like the disciples on the road, I can be close to You yet unaware. Today I ask that You open my eyes. Remove anything that dulls my spiritual vision. Help me to see You in Scripture, in daily moments, and in the quiet movements of my life. Thank You that You are always near, even when I do not recognize it. Teach me to walk with awareness of Your presence every day. Amen.
