Good News #292: Jesus is My Provider: He Will Exceedingly Provide for All My Needs, and I Shall Have Abundance in Every Area of My Life!
In the Old Testament, we read about a severe famine in Abraham’s time (Genesis 12)… then we also read about another severe famine in Isaac’s time (Genesis 26)… and what’s amazing is that the bible records that even during this famine, Isaac prospered, continued prospering and became very prosperous that the Philistines envied him.
Then we read about a seven-year famine that almost wiped out the world (Genesis 41) but The Lord God had already placed Joseph in Egypt and promoted him to the second highest rank in authority over the land, giving him wisdom to prepare the entire land for the coming famine… in the end, Joseph not only saved Egypt but even his father Jacob, his brothers and their entire family from the famine.
We also read about Elijah who survived a famine that lasted for three years and six months (Luke 4:25) because the Lord made provisions available to Elijah through a raven, the brook Cherith and a widow from Zarephath.
The point of these being that even though famines happen, The Lord will never allow those who belong to Him to go hungry…
Fast forward to the new testament, Jesus the Son of God came and performed so many miracles that John wrote in his gospel that if they were recorded, the earth could not contain the books.
But the one and only miracle of Jesus that is recorded in all four gospels is the feeding of the five thousand.
It seems the Holy Spirit, The Divine Author of the bible, has such a fondness over this miracle that He made sure it is in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
If we come to think about it, going hungry… starving… is a very common fear for mankind… and it seems the Holy Spirit wanted to make sure we know we have a Good Shepherd in Jesus who would never allow us to go hungry… and that, if it’s a miracle we need to get full with much leftover, then it’s a miracle Jesus will do.
The gospel is this — Jesus can and will multiply bread and fishes to make sure those who belong to Him are saved from hunger and fainting.
If He does this, much more will He do to save His flock from famine.
Where Jesus is, no famine can happen.
Jesus is the Great Shepherd-Provider!
