Good News #285: With His Grace and Mercy, Jesus Draws Me to Him; Sickness, Poverty and Accidents Are Not From a Loving God!

A tragic reality of Christianity today is that some Christian circles believe God makes people sick to teach humility or makes them poor to teach dependence on Him or makes them get into accidents to prove His sovereignty.

Yet, in the next breath, they say “God is good all the time and all the time, God is good.”

And you wonder — what is it really? Does He give sicknesses, poverty and accidents… OR… is He good?

The Bible’s response is clear  —

(1) we have a new covenant… a better one unlike the old. (see Hebrews 7:22)

(2) the new covenant is dependent on the obedience of Jesus… unlike the old one which was dependent on man’s. (see Romans 5:19)

(3) the new covenant is rooted on blessings and not on curses because Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law (see Galatians 3:13-14)

(4) Jesus shows us exactly who The Father is because Jesus only does what The Father does (see John 5:19),

and

(5) Jesus only says what The Father tells Him to (see John 8:28; 12:50)

(6) Jesus is the fullness of the Godhead (see Colossians 2:9)

(7) Jesus is the express image of God (Hebrews 1:3)

In the gospels, not once did Jesus give anyone sickness (even the pharisees)… therefore, God does not give anyone sickness… not once did Jesus impoverish anyone (when you read about the rich young ruler (a non-disciple), continue reading and hear what Jesus said to Peter (a disciple) about a hundredfold blessing in this lifetime… therefore, God does not make anyone poor… Jesus was simplying showing the rich young ruler that he had made his possession his god…

Our God’s nature is consistent… only the covenants have changed.

Even in the old testament, He has loved man with an everlasting love and His way of drawing mankind to Himself is with lovingkindness.

Much more now is He freer to pour out His lovingkindess because Jesus has fulfilled the requirements of the old covenant and ushered in a new one.

The gospel is this — The ways of God are ways of lovingkindness.

He will never draw people to Himself or teach people a lesson by using unloving ways like sickness or poverty or accidents.

God is good all the time and all the time, God is good.

The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying:
“Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love;
Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.
