Good News #284: I Am Surrounded by Jesus’ Hedge of Protection; Because I Belong to Him, I Am Always Protected!
The most illustrative bible account that shows us the amount and quality of protection our Lord Jesus has released for His people is in 2 Kings 6 where the prophet Elisha prayed for the eyes of his servant to see what The Lord had provided as protection for him.
At this point, the king of Syria had sent an army to capture Elisha who had been spoiling the king’s plans against Israel and so naturally, Elisha’s servant panicked when he saw the army surrounding the place… but Elisha told him not to fear because there is more on their side than those against them…
2 Kings 6:17 says:
And Elisha prayed, and said, “Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
Now, we have to understand the horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha had been there all along… Elisha only prayed that his servant will see so that he will not fear…
Who gave that heavenly army to protect Elisha? The Lord, of course….
Elisha lives under the old covenant but the bible says in Hebrews that we have a better covenant…
if Elisha had that protection so do we…
The gospel is this — Psalm 125:2 is clear — Lord surrounds His people from this time forth and forever.
This means His protection for us is timeless and everlasting.
