Good News #279: Jesus is Not Bothered When I Call For His Help, He Gladly Hears and Answers Them!
If we read the gospel account of how even the winds and waves obey Jesus, we see that Jesus rebuked the storm and stilled it… yet we don’t see Jesus chastising His disciples specifically for interrupting His well-deserved rest.
Jesus is 100% God yet He came in the flesh to also be 100% Man to become an acceptable representative for us at the cross. When He walked the earth, Jesus experienced the need for sleep, too. He was not pretending to be asleep on the stern. His days are busy with ministry and Him sleeping was much-needed rest.
At this point, the disciples have already seen many miracles Jesus did… like turning water into wine, healing miracles, casting out demons… The disciples already know that Jesus is no ordinary Man… they already have an idea that He is divine… yet even with this, they are fully aware of an approachability about Jesus… they know that Jesus loves them and that Jesus can be relied on… and so even though Jesus was sleeping, they did not hesitate to cry out to Him for help.
They woke Him up… and Jesus did and rebuked the storm for them.
Jesus did not treat their cry for help (even if it was an act of little faith) as an interruption… He willingly responded to it.
If Jesus did this then, will He not also treat our cries for help with such willingness now?
The heart of Jesus is unchangeable. The way He is then is the way He is now…
Although the difference now is that Jesus is no longer restricted to a body that needs sleep to recover from a day’s ministry…
Psalm 121:4 says:
Behold, He who keeps Israel
Shall neither sleep nor slumber.
The gospel is this — If Jesus, prior to His resurrection, did not treat the cries for help as interruption…
He will also not treat our cries for help as interruptions now that He is no longer restricted to a body like He was then.
Jesus will always willingly and immediately respond to our cries for help to Him.
