Good News #244: I Always Remind Myself of This: The Holy Spirit Only Brings Goodness to My Life!
There are accounts in the gospels found in more than one gospel… especially those recorded in Matthew, Mark and Luke which are called the synoptic gospels because the account is meant to be understood in full by reading it in all the gospels it is found in.
This is the case of that time when Jesus taught about asking, seeking and knocking. It is recorded in both Matthew and Luke.
Matthew’s gospel records Jesus saying in Matthew 7:11: (emphasis mine)
“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give GOOD THINGS to those who ask Him!”
Luke’s gospel records it in Luke 11:13: (emphasis mine)
“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give THE HOLY SPIRIT to those who ask Him!”
There is no inconsistency in the bible. Every word is God-breathed… inspired by the Holy Spirit as indicated in 2 Timothy 3:16.
By putting together, what Matthew and Luke recorded, we then understand that good things which can only come from God (James 1:17) are given to those who belong to Jesus by and through the Holy Spirit, who Himself had been promised by The Father to be given to those who believe in Jesus.
Jesus called The Holy Spirit The Comforter… another Helper just like Him…which means whatever we see Jesus doing in the gospels for those who came to Him, sought Him and believed in HIm is exactly what the Holy Spirit will do to those who belong to Jesus.
The gospel is this — Just like Jesus, The Holy Spirit will never nag anyone nor condemn anyone because Jesus came not to condemn but to save.
Just like Jesus, The Holy Spirit will never make anyone sick or cause accidents or impoverish anyone.
The Holy Spirit is One with The Father and The Son…
Only good things come from the Holy Spirit.
