Good News #119: The Lord My God is Fighting For Me While I Dwell in His Peace!

The Lord God is a Mighty Man of War who always prevails against His enemies.

Isaiah 42:13 puts it this way…
The Lord shall go forth like a mighty Man;
He shall stir up His zeal like a Man of war.
He shall cry out, yes, shout aloud;
He shall prevail against His enemies.

It is a terrifying thought to be found fighting against The Lord because whoever is not on His side will always end up in defeat.

Did you know that Exodus 14:14 was spoken by Moses BEFORE The Ten Commandments (Exodus 20) was given?… which means The Lord fighting for them has nothing to do with obedience…because they are not yet even aware of the ten commandments.

The Lord is fighting for them NOT because they are good or obedient BUT because He is good and faithful to the covenant He made with Abraham which He iterated to Isaac and Jacob (later renamed Israel).

With this, if we step a few chapters back, does it occur to you that God did not fight for the children of Israel against pharaoh of Egypt because they were obedient to the Ten Commandments and any of His laws given through Moses?…because as mentioned, the Ten Commandments had not yet been given at that point…

Did you also know that while in Egypt, the children of Israel actually worshipped other gods (a violation against the very first commandment of having no other gods)?

We read about this in Joshua 24:12 as Joshua tells them yet again to put away the gods they have served in Egypt:
“Now therefore, fear the Lord, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord!”

The gospel is this — The Lord fights for those He has a covenant with…and we have a covenant with Him cut by His own blood.

So, if The Lord fought for the children of Israel against pharaoh because of His covenant with Abraham (despite them worshipping Egyptian gods)…ALL THE MORE will He fight for us who are in a covenant with Him cut by His own blood.

We only need to hold our peace…be still and let Him fight for us.

We have an extravagantly good and faithful God!
And He is for us…never against us.

The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.
