Good News #114: My God Loves to Comfort Me and to Forgive My Sins!

Don’t confuse the last line in Isaiah 40:2 for something negative. It is not.

In fact, it’s a picture of the beautiful grace of God towards His people.

“For she has received from the Lord’s hand double for all her sins” simply means the Lord has abundantly responded with grace and mercy… forgiveness and no condemnation… redemption and justification… deliverance and life…

This handing out double to sinners is displayed in Jesus.

To the woman at the well, Jesus gave her security in His acceptance and love for her by letting her know that He fully knows well who she is and her lifestyle AND that He does not condemn her. Not only that, Jesus revealed to her that He is the Messiah… she was the only one of whom Jesus revealed Himself as Messiah… Jesus offered to her living water… Jesus spoke to her of the powerful truth about worship in the new covenant…

To the adulteress dragged into His presence, Jesus delivered her from the ones who want to stone her. Jesus gave her the gift of no condemnation and the power to sin no more. Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you, go and sin no more”…

To the woman with a twelve-year issue of blood, Jesus gave her healing, wholeness and peace. Jesus did not allow her to go unnoticed so she won’t live her entire life thinking she stole her healing. Jesus called her daughter (probably something she has not been called for a long time as she is considered unclean and would have been ostracized)…

To the leper, Jesus gave him assurance of His willingness to heal him and restored his sense of humanity and dignity by touching the leper (something he would not have had for a long time as he is considered unclean and contagious)…the leper received the touch of The Saviour, The very Son of God Himself…

The gospel is this — God becoming One of us in sinless flesh and dying for us is meant to comfort us… that we are no longer at enmity with God…we’ve been reconciled back to Him and that our sins have been forgiven.

Whatta God we have!!!
Whatta gospel we have in The Lord — it truly comforts!

“Comfort, yes, comfort My people!” Says your God.
“Speak comfort to Jerusalem, and cry out to her,
That her warfare is ended, That her iniquity is pardoned;
For she has received from the Lord’s hand, double for all her sins.”
