Good News #82: God Wants Me Filled to the Fullest, So My Fullness Overflows to Others!

The new testament account of Jesus feeding the five thousand is the old testament’s Psalm 23 in action.

John 6:12, in particular, where it indicates everyone being FILLED and still more fragments remaining…TWELVE BASKETS REMAINING… is reminiscent of Psalm 23:5 where it says…My cup runs over.

We know in the gospel of Matthew that the five thousand did not include women and children.
Surely the men would have larger appetites than the women and the children. This means that if the men needed two or three more than women and children for them to be filled then two or three more they received.

Everyone had as much as they personally needed and wanted until they were filled.

Jesus kept on providing and even provided more than how much they needed to be filled. He only stopped multiplying the bread and fishes when they were filled and even then, there was so much extra.

We have a God who wants to bless and provide for us more than we want ourselves blessed and provided for.

Jesus Himself said in Luke 12:32…
“Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.”

If God is willing and even takes good pleasure in giving you the kingdom, surely God’s not holding back on anything that you need and even want.

Romans 8:32 puts it this way…
He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him freely give us all things?

God does not just freely give…He freely gives us all things much more than we can think or imagine because that’s how He does it…

Ephesians 3:20 puts it this way…
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.

This is the gospel — that in Jesus, God does not just meet our needs, He exceeds it…and not just that, He even delights in lavishing on you.

Whatta God we have!
Whatta wonderfully Good Shepherd we have in our amazing Saviour Jesus Christ!
