Good News #80: Despite My Failures, Jesus is Ready to Forgive, Gracious and Merciful, and Abundant in Kindness!
This portion of scripture is part of what the Levites and eight specifically mentioned Levites spoke of in the hearing of all the children of Israel as they recounted their transgressions toward God…on a day of fasting, putting on sackcloth and dust on their heads.
YET nestled in their recount of their acts of transgressions and iniquities as a nation towards God are many powerful and beautiful truths of the God who remained loving and faithful to them despite their idolatry, faithlessness, their turning their backs from Him…including this in verse 17…
Let’s remember that these are people under the law…people whose covering of sins are animal sacrifices…covering of sins which is temporary and had to be repeated over and over because the blood of bulls and goats cannot atone for their sins…
Hebrews 10:1,4 says…
For the law, having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect.
…
For IT IS NOT POSSIBLE that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins.
IF in the OLD COVENANT…
God was a God to them who was ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, abundantly kind and never forsook them…
How much more so for us IN THE NEW COVENANT cut by the eternal blood of His SON JESUS whose blood eternally took away all our sins?
Hebrews 10:12,14 says…
But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God,
…
For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.
The gospel is this — that if God was as extravagantly, wonderfully good to people under the old covenant despite their failures…MUCH MORE will He be for us who are in the new covenant.
When you fail, do not be afraid of God. He is no longer angry at you…just come to Him as you are because the blood of Jesus has washed all your sins AND CONTINUALLY does so. You can come boldly to God’s throne anytime everytime.
Whatta God we have!
Whatta gospel we have in Jesus!
