Good News #103: Because I Know My God and I Put My Trust in Him, I Shall Always Be Strong and Carry Out Great Victories!

New testament truths are often fleshed out in the Old testament.

1 Corinthians 10:6,11 says of old testament accounts:
Now these things became our examples…
Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition…

One of the many new covenant truths is that everyone who believes in Jesus and His sacrifice for righteousness, sanctification and redemption are more than conquerors through Him.

What do “more than conquerors” do?
Daniel 11:32 says they — shall be strong and carry out great exploits.

But who are they?
Daniel 11:32 says — the people who know their God.

A great example of such is David.

When the Philistines gathered their army against Israel and their champion, Goliath, drew near to defy and taunt them, Saul (who was king at that time) and all men of Israel were dismayed and greatly afraid [1 Samuel 17:11]… All men of Israel fled and were dreadfully afraid [1 Samuel 17:24].

They were conscious of the enemy…their size compared to the enemy…their weapons compared to the enemy’s…

NOT David.

David was conscious of his God…David knows The Faithful God of Israel…

Here’s what David said to Goliath in 1 Samuel 17:45, 47:
“You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you IN THE NAME OF THE LORD OF HOSTS, the GOD of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied…all this assembly shall know that THE LORD does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is THE LORD’s, and HE will give you into our hands.”

David came with five smooth stones. Only one was used and it killed Goliath.

Guess whose sword David used to cut off Goliath’s head?

1 Samuel 17:50-51 tells us…
…there was no sword in the hand of David. Therefore David ran and stood over the Philistine, took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and killed him, and cut off his head with it…

David brought victory to Israel because he knew God and he was more conscious of God than the enemies.

The gospel is this — Jesus made everyone who believes in Him more than conquerors. His Holy Spirit dwells in them, of whom 1 John 4:4 says is He who is greater than he who is in the world.

Whatta wonderful God we have!
