Good News #64: Jesus Came to Give Life and For His People to Live More Abundantly. Will You Receive This Free Gift?
Let’s read that again…
Our Lord Jesus Himself said…
“I have come that they may have life and life more abundantly”
Jesus spoke this within the context of talking about Him being the Good Shepherd.
Let’s define what is NOT life:
-death (obviously)
-being sick
-being homeless
-not having food on the table
-having barely enough
-failed marriages
-strife in families
-strife in relationships
…and many more…
Jesus did not come to give us a coping mechanism to endure all these and just stay afloat. And while “poverty” is not outrightly stated in there, there are details that spell out poverty.
Jesus came to give us an option that was not available before He came — LIFE.
Jesus came to give us life…AND life more abundant.
And LIFE is the exact opposite of the previous list:
-being alive
-being healthy
-having a home
-having good nourishing warm meals, snacks, etc.
-financial security
-healthy and thriving marriages
-healthy and thriving relationships
…and many more…
Jesus came so that everyone who believes in Him and makes Him their Good Shepherd enjoys what only He can offer…of which we find in Psalm 23:
emphasis below are mine
The LORD is my SHEPHERD;
I WILL NEVER BE FOUND LACKING.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
MY CUP RUNS OVER.
SURELY GOODNESS and MERCY SHALL FOLLOW ME
ALL THE DAYS OF MY LIFE;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
Forever.
Whatta Good Good Shepherd we have in Jesus!
Jesus is the gospel!
