Good News #58: God is Pleased When I Use My Riches and Resources to Establish His Covenant!
Many who believe in Jesus carry the wrong idea that money is the root of all evil.
I suspect this is because of either of two things or both:
First — They heard wrong messages from those who read 1 Timothy 6:10 with partial blindness.
Second — They don’t check scripture for themselves.
Let me put 1 Timothy 6:10 in here in its entirety… (with highlight on what needs to be noticed)…
For THE LOVE OF money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
It says “The love OF money” and NOT just “money”…
Money is neutral… it is NOT the root spoken of here… The LOVE OF money is…
The presence of money alone does not birth evil…
And even in the absence of money, a person can still love money more than people…
Now, if money is evil…then simple logic will accuse these men of God as evil:
Abraham — Genesis 13:2
And Abram was VERY RICH in cattle, in silver, and in gold.
Isaac — Genesis 26:12-14
Then Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year a hundredfold and THE LORD BLESSED HIM.
The man began to PROSPER, and CONTINUED PROSPERING until he became VERY PROSPEROUS for he had possessions of flocks and possessions of herds and a great number of servants. So the Philistines envied him.
David — his words in 1 Chronicle 29:3-4
“Moreover, because I have set my affection on the house of my God, I have given to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house, MY OWN special treasure of gold and silver:
three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the houses”
Solomon — 1 Kings 10:23 and 2 Chronicle 9:22
So King Solomon SURPASSED all the kings of the earth IN RICHES and wisdom.
They (and many others) are highly esteemed in the bible.
Let’s also remember that God Himself prospered them…why did God do so?
God did so to establish His covenant that He swore to them…
The gospel is this — God is not intimidated with the idea of making His people rich and prosperous. It is one of His ways of establishing His covenant with His people.
Whatta God we have!
