Good News #17: For Jesus-Believers, Death is Only the Beginning of Being with Him Forever!
These are the words of Jesus to one of the two who hung on a cross with Him at Calvary…of whom Matthew and Mark wrote are thieves and Luke wrote are criminals.
The records obviously tell us that these are not people serving in church, doing charitable deeds, etc… and yet we do NOT find Jesus telling him who told Jesus to remember him when He comes into His kingdom that for a thief / criminal like him to join Jesus in Paradise, he has to make restitution for what he had done NOR do we find Jesus telling him to make sure someone prays for his soul when he dies that day.
The thief knew he is a dead man. Jesus did, too, so Jesus knows there was no way this thief can make up for the crimes he had done. Yet, Jesus gave His word to the thief that he will join Jesus that day in Paradise… Jesus cannot lie.
The gospel is that salvation from hell is immediate. There are only two possible locations after we part from this world: heaven or hell… and the gospel is that salvation comes from personally believing in Jesus and receiving His redemptive atoning death on the cross as the price for our entry into His kingdom… NOT our good works or someone else’s prayers for us.
The gospel is that whoever believes in Him (Jesus) should not perish but have eternal life [John 3:15]… that whoever believes in Him (Jesus) should not perish but have everlasting life [John 3:16].
While it cost Him His life, salvation is a free gift to all who BELIEVES and RECEIVES Jesus as Lord and Saviour.
Jesus did it all.
Jesus paid it all.
Whattta God we have!
Whatta Saviour we have in Jesus!
