Day 15: Faith is Trusting God’s Word to Accomplish Itself in Its Time

So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to Me void,
But it shall accomplish what I please,
And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

ISAIAH 55:11, NKJV

God’s word has power on its own to accomplish what it promises. Faith is trusting God that what He had spoken will come to pass in its own time and not go trying to help God to accomplish it.

Such was the case with David.

David was anointed king at a time when Saul, anointed as king years prior, is still holding the office.

Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.

1 SAMUEL 16:13, NKJV

When David started outshining Saul in battle, Saul determined to kill David forcing David to keep fleeing like a fugitive.

David knew all along that God had chosen him to be king and yet twice when he had a chance to kill Saul who is after his life, David dare not raise his hand against king Saul whom he still respects as the anointed of the Lord.

In the wilderness of En Gedi:

Saul unknowingly went to attend his needs in the cave where David and his men were hiding. David’s men urged him to kill Saul. David only cut off a corner of Saul’s robe which even troubled his heart. And he [David] said to his men, “The Lord forbid that I should do this thing to my master, the Lord’s anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the Lord.” So David restrained his servants with these words, and did not allow them to rise against Saul. And Saul got up from the cave and went on his way.

1 SAMUEL 24:6-7

In the hill of Hachilah:

David and Abishai came to where Saul and Abner, commander of Saul’s army, lay. Abishai asked permission from David to strike Saul at once to the earth so he won’t have to strike Saul a second time. But David said to Abishai, “Do not destroy him; for who can stretch out his hand against the Lord’s anointed, and be guiltless?” David said furthermore, “As the Lord lives, the Lord shall strike him, or his day shall come to die, or he shall go out to battle and perish. The Lord forbid that I should stretch out my hand against the Lord’s anointed. But please, take now the spear and the jug of water that are by his head, and let us go.”

1 SAMUEL 26:9-11

Indeed, Saul died a tragic death with his sons in a war against the Philistines. This heralded the reign of David as king of Israel.

David did not compromise his integrity to be king. He dare not help God in God’s plan by killing the incumbent king.

David trusted God’s word despite the circumstances and continued to respect the anointing of the Lord on the one whom he was to succeed.

Reflection Question:

Do you know that every promise of God in the bible has been paid for by the blood of Jesus and that every born again child of God can claim every single one of them in the name of Jesus?

And when a child of God does so, it’s just a matter of time for it to manifest into reality.

Radical Faith in Action:

Whatever your area of frustration is today, you can go to the word of God, take His promise in that area and declare it over your life.

If it’s in the area of health, believe and let His promise of divine health and/or healing saturate your being as you declare, “Lord, You are willing to heal me. By your stripes, I am healed.” [Matthew 8:3, 1 Peter 2:24]

If it’s in the area of provision, believe and let His promise sink in as you declare, “Jesus, You are my Good Shepherd. In You, I will lack nothing. Whatever I do shall prosper in Jesus’ name.” [Psalm 23:1, Psalm 1:3]

If it’s in the area of protection, believe and let His guarantee of round-the-clock protection silence every fear as you declare, “Lord Jesus, thank You that I dwell in the secret place of the Most High in You and abide under the shadow of the Almighty who neither sleeps nor slumbers to keep me. [Psalm 91:1, Psalm 121:4]
