Day 19: The Lord is My Protector, I Will Fear No Evil!

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me…

Psalm 23:1,4 (NIV)

The idea of God as our Good Shepherd is in fact very comforting especially in these times we’re living right now. Uncertainty, anxiety and fear may abound in the world, but for Christ-believers – God’s flock, we have been given the assurance that no evil will befall us (Ps 91:10) and so we shall fear no evil (Ps 23:4).

How is this possible? The cross of Jesus Christ made the difference. Although we are on this world, yet we’ve already been redeemed from the curse of this world (Gal 3:13). What this means: every trick of the devil will not work on us! What is it then that we have to do? Only believe! Be the sheep that willingly and obediently follows every direction of the Shepherd, knowing that the Shepherd has the best intention for the flock. For instance, when God commands to use the authority of Christ-believers to combat the enemy, then we do that.

When we realize this truth, it’s going to be easier to navigate and live life to the fullest – because there’s going to be no fear, no worries and no anxieties. Only total reliance on God, His protection and provision! Friends, I encourage you to meditate on Psalm 23, the great psalm of David likening the Father as the Good Shepherd:

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.

Prayer for Today:

Father, thank you for being my Shepherd – for the things that you’re doing in me, for me and with me. I believe that you have the best intentions for me and my family, and I receive your protection and provision in the midst of this pandemic. Thank you for Jesus Christ, my Lord, Savior, and Redeemer. I put my trust in Him, believing that He has done everything that needs to be done on my behalf – via the cross. Now, I’m reaping the benefits of what He’s accomplished by His victory over all enemies. By faith, I receive them all! I ask the Holy Spirit to continue leading and guiding me, as I navigate the challenges of this life, knowing fully and assuredly that I am not alone in this journey – for I am led by my Shepherd, who loves me and cares for me. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen!
